ASUA's recent action to some clubs shows ineptitude, lacks foresightEditor:Unreal. That is the only word that can describe the actions of the ASUA Undergraduate Senate. Their ability to disregard all rules and just do whatever they want just because they think it is right is incredible and scary. Not only did they cut ASD, a vital service organization for not only disabled students but for ALL students. I am not disabled, and I have been a member of ASD for over a year. I was impressed with their friendliness and commitment to educate all people about disabilities. Their willingness to include all people was impressive, and I enjoyed working with them and many of the members have now become my good friends. The reason that many of the members, including myself, did not want to participate this year was because we felt we were not listened to in the appointment of Ann Fowler as director. We felt that someone with more experience would be better suited. The year before, the club was active and strong, so the statement that "Precedent is important and ASD has deteriorated over the past few years," by Sen. Lauren Sliger is just flat-out wrong and shows lack of investigation and understanding of the entire situation. In addition, the fact that ASUA violated Arizona Open Meeting Laws to reconsider the approval of BGALA's laws is incomprehensible. The laws had already been approved, and just because a few senators did not like it, they wanted to try again to get BGALA cut. Again, they felt that the organization only benefited one group of students on campus, and again the senators showed little understanding of the fact that these organizations educate ALL students, promoting awareness and understanding and serving the entire community. Even if they had not violated Arizona law, the fact that they wanted to reconsider the organization after it had been approved just because they can't understand the purpose of the organization is absolutely ridiculous. Once again, the members of our ASUA government have shown a clear ineptitude for listening to the UA community and students. They feel they can do whatever they want, regardless of the impact it makes. The only comment that I can make to respond to their clearly thoughtless actions is ... Shame on you ASUA.
