GPSC article filled with misinformationEditor:The Graduate and Professional Student Council was pleased to see the coverage of our elections in the Tuesday Wildcat. However, there were some factual errors I'd like to correct. First, unsuccessful candidates in the contested elections become alternate representatives and may serve as committee heads or be elected as the Council's Executive Vice President or Treasurer. Second, the article states that, "Students who wish to run for a representative position must ... be interviewed by the GPSC. GPSC votes on the approval of all candidates." This is incorrect. Special elections will be held in the fall to fill vacant seats; there is no interview or approval process. Perhaps the confusion is that any graduate/professional student can submit an application to be an alternate representative for his/her constituent unit pending approval of the Council. Third, the pull quote "We encourage everyone to apply because they are good positions and are good resume builders" seems to imply that the positions referred to are the Representative seats; however, from reading the article it's clear that Fernicola was referring to the Director positions. The pull quote is misleading. Applications for the director positions will be available at the Graduate College and on the World Wide Web page by Monday April 21 and will be due May 1; the new Council will select and approve its directors.
