Allen Arizona Daily Wildcat April 22, 1997 Police BeatA female student reported she was threatened and intimidated by two other students Saturday in her room at La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave.The student told university police that she was lying awake in her bed with the lights off at about 3 a.m. when she heard the door being unlocked. She said that as the door was being opened, she heard someone ask, "OK, who's going to do it?" The student told police that after the door was opened, her roommate turned on the lights and a male student went to the bed and held a lighter tilted towards the first student's face with a 6- to 8-inch flame pointing toward her, police reports stated. The female student told police she was very frightened and felt fortunate that she was awake because she does not know what could have happened. She said she felt threatened and intimidated and wants to press charges. Police met with the male student, who said he was pretty drunk but went into the female student's room looking for the roommate, police reports stated. The male student told police that after he turned the lights on and saw the female student, he told her he was sorry and left. The roommate told police she was drinking that night and everything was hazy, but she did unlock the door to her room and the male student did light his lighter in the female student's face. Police asked the roommate if she and the male student were together that morning, and she said they were. Police are still investigating the incident.
A male student was arrested on two charges after university police found a fictitious driver's license in his wallet Sunday at police headquarters, 1200 E. Lowell St. Police were finishing a DUI investigation when police met with three friends of the DUI arrestee. Police determined that none of the three men were fit to drive home, and all three men admitted to drinking, police reports stated. One of the men gave police permission to park the vehicle that the men had been driving. While parking the vehicle, police noticed a wallet sitting on the front passenger seat and removed it to return it to its owner, police reports stated. Reports stated that police looked inside the wallet to determine who owned the wallet and found a driver's license in it with the name of one of the three men, Mason C. Helms, 20, a resident of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house, 1801 E. First St. Helms had given police another license at police headquarters with a different name and birth date on it, police reports stated. Police talked with Helms and asked him about the licenses. Helms told police, "I know, you found the ID in my wallet," police reports stated. Helms was arrested on charges of possession of a fictitious license and minor in consumption of alcohol. He was cited and released at the scene.
A male student reported a suspicious e-mail message sent to his u.arizona.edu account Friday at Manzanita-Mohave Residence Hall, 1000 N. Park Ave. The student told university police he received the e-mail message April 9 at 9:37 p.m. from another u.arizona.edu account. The message stated, "Saskwatch, no one likes you i hope die." Police advised the student to return a request for no further contact from the person who sent the e-mail message. Police also advised the student to report any other suspicious messages he receives.
A male UA employee reported his Zone 1 parking permit stolen from his car Thursday in Lot 3039 at the intersection of East Second Street and North Palm Drive. The employee told university police that he last used his parking permit Tuesday to park his 1990 Toyota Celica in the lot. He said he noticed the permit was missing when he received a parking ticket Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. The employee told police there was no damage to his car; however, he said he did leave his window rolled down slightly. The parking permit was valued at $300.
