First Amendment freedoms cannot be denied in the name of any religionEditor:Power is the basis for pretty much everything we do. For one reason or another we all wish we had more of it. Personally, I wish I was Josh Proctor. He may not be my hero, but I do envy him. I envy the power and status he has been given by the readers of the Wildcat. The campus is holding its breath waiting for his next strip. Waiting to see just how high he can rise. Who else gets attention like this? Josh is in a very select group. A group composed of household names such as Dennis Rodman, Howard Stern, and Rush Limbaugh. He has joined the elite, the powerful, the 'Shock Jocks of America.' The only disturbing thing about his rise to power is those who might attempt to rise with him. People like Adam Hillier. This poor misguided man had the gall to suggest that "[i]t is one thing to poke fun at religion or a religious ceremony, but it is another to mock the Lord." WHAT? I am scared of what comes next. CNN: 'Today at the White House President Hillier signed a bill outlawing the mocking of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior of us all.' What happened to the First Amendment, well they had to throw that out to make Catholicism (or Baptism, Judaism, Islam, etc.) the Official Religion of the Holy United States of America. Next thing you know some poor Evangelist will be thrown in jail for kicking a statue of Mary. Oh wait, that already did happen. True, it was in Brazil but where will it happen next. Now it is possible that I have exaggerated Adam's offense, but none the less it exists. (Adam, your welcome for the power trip!) As does freedom of speech and religion... for now at any rate. The only thing left to say is this: As a committed Dead Head I am extremely offended by the recent 'Falafel' comic. It may be all right to make fun of music or fans, but it is quite another to mock Jerry.
