The UA Faculty Center lost its long-time executive manager, Emily Krauz, on May 26 at age 55.

In honor of her, the university has established the Emily Krauz Staff Scholarship Fund.

Announced Monday at the Faculty Senate meeting, the fund will award scholarships to full-time classified staff employees.

Eligible employees must have at least three years of University of Arizona service and be enrolled in college courses. The recipient will also have made significant contributions to the university in the past year.

The Faculty Center will appoint a committee to screen award applicants and determine the amount of the awards, said Frank Felix of the UA Foundation.

Terry Burke, associate to UA President Manuel Pacheco, first met Krauz in the early 1970s while both were at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

"In my opinion, the Faculty Senate has lost a most charming person and dedicated servant," Burke said at Monday's senate meeting.

Krauz later moved to Tucson and began working at the UA in 1974. Burke came to Arizona in 1982. He worked with Krauz frequently as Pacheco's representative on the Faculty Senate.

Contributions can be sent to UA Scholarship Development Office in the Marvin D. "Swede" Johnson Building, 1111 N. Cherry Ave., P.O. Box 210109, Tucson, Ariz. 85721-0109.
