U of A - Today

  • The UA Library offers a free workshop on Creating Web Pages: Beyond the Basics in the Main Library Room A315 from 10 a.m. until noon. The workshop cover how to use colors, maps and tables. The workshop is designed for users who have attended the create-your-own homepage workshop.

  • The Agricultural Department along with the Extension Garden Center hosts a one-hour demonstration on "Desert Composting and Mulching (Recycling)" at 9 a.m. in the Extension Garden Center, 4210 N. Campbell Ave.

  • Tree-Ring Talks present Jim Speer to speak on "A Dendrochronological Record of Pandora Moth Outbreaks, Fire History, and Climate in Central Oregon," in the Arizona Stadium West Room104G at noon.

  • The Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium presents "The Comets are Coming," an exploration into the nature and origin of comets at 7:30 p.m. The laser light show features the music of Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon at 8:30 p.m. For ticket prices call 621-STAR.

  • The Building Academic Community Speakers Series presents Donna E. Swaim, senior lecturer emerita of humanities, to speak on "Life And All Its Glories," in the Memorial Student Union's Gallagher Theatre from 12:15 until 12:50 p.m.

  • The School of Music and Dance presents "Double Bass Ensemble" in the Music building Room 232 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:10 p.m.

  • The Art Department hosts its 6th Annual New Genre Event featuring students in the new genre art program at the Tucson Center for the Performing Arts, 408 S. Sixth Ave., at 8 p.mwith a suggested donation of $5 at the door.

    Various short sketches comprise "An Evening of Performance Art" dealing with sexual identity, gender constructs and family dynamics. Featured artists include: Vicki Dempsey, Marc Friend, Kirsten Hassenfeld, Elizabeth Heichelbech, Jeff Kahn, Michaela McCloskey, Michelle Petillo, Julie Richard, Jessica Shuman and Abigail Wilburn.

  • The Memorial Student Union's Gallagher Theatre is showing "Beavis and Butthead Do America" at 7:30 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Admission is $2.50.

Fact of the Day

Thirteen years ago today American veterans of the Vietnam War reached an out of court settlement with seven chemical companies in their class action suit the herbicide Agent Orange.
