Police Beat

A 17-year-old minor was cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia Thursday after officers investigated a suspicious group of people near the Circle K at East Sixth Street and North Santa Rita Avenue.

University police approached the four people and asked to see identification.

The minor said he did not have any. Police then asked him what was inside his wallet, which was visible in a front pocket, according to police reports.

The minor said, "Do you wanna see?" and police responded "Yes."

When the youth opened the wallet it contained a clear plastic bag and a "green leafy substance." Police asked what it was and the minor said, "weed," police reports stated.

When police told the minor he was under arrest, he began running west on East Sixth Street. Police caught the youth about a block away.

As the officers were handcuffing the minor a pipe was found in his rear pocket, police reports stated.

The minor was referred to the Pima County Juvenile Correction Center.

A female UA student reported that on June 18 about 11 a.m. her wallet was stolen from her room in Apache Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1440 E. Fifth St.

She said her roommate, who was alone in the room, briefly left, leaving the door ajar, police reports stated.

The student did not immediately notice her wallet missing but did call to cancel credit cards as soon as she was aware it was gone. One unauthorized charge had already been made on her Discover card, according to police reports.

Police have no suspects and the value of the missing items was unknown.

A female UA employee reported that on June 18 a suspicious man was hanging around the buildings at Tumamoc Hill, a UA research outpost at 1700 W. Anklam Road.

The woman told university police that about 3:40 p.m. a man began pounding on a window and asking for water. The employee told the man she didn't have any water. The man then began dancing around a flagpole and running between buildings, according to poli ce reports.

A second female employee reported seeing the same man near a different building, also asking for water and stating he "had 12 friends with him." He took a drink from a hose. The woman then notified a male employee who spoke to the man, police reports stat ed.

The male employee told police the man appeared "nervous and acted confused."

The man told police his "12 friends" were Jesus' disciples and he again asked for water.

The male employee told the man the water in the hose and the faucets was the same, police reports stated.

The suspect was described as a thin Hispanic male, in his 20s, about 5'7," with a scar on the left side of his face.

Police have no suspects.

A female UA employee reported receiving a threatening phone message sometime between 5 p.m. June 13 and 8 a.m. June 16 at the Space Sciences building, 1629 E. University Blvd.

The employee told university police that when she arrived at work Monday June 16 the following message was on the machine: in a male voice it said, "You don't know my name," then in a female voice, "I'll kill you," police reports stated.

The woman told police she did not recognize either voice and had no idea why someone would leave that kind of a message.

However, she did tell police some strange things have been happening lately.

One day a bowl of canned dog food was in her driveway. Another day someone ran down a neighbor's cyclone fence, and pieces of the fence were then neatly laid on her barbecue, according to police reports.

Police have no suspects.
