- "The Breakfast Club" is the midnight movie tonight and tomorrow night at the Memorial Student Union's Gallagher Theatre. Admission is $2.50.
- "Systems Engineering at West Point or How I Spent My Sabbatical Year" is presented by Jeff Goldberg, of the UA Systems and Industrial Engineering Department. Goldberg discusses his involvement in both the education and research processes at the United States Military Academy at Westpoint. The seminar is at 2 p.m. in Engineering, Room 301. - University Activities Board sponsors a twister tournament, using 15 to 20 mats, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the UA Mall. Call Sarah Perlman at 621-0760 for more information.
- The German Studies Film Series presents "Effi Briest," Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1974 film version of Theordor Fontane's classic novel of adultery. The film has English subtitles. It shows at 7:30 p.m. in the Modern Languages Auditorium. Call German Studies at 621-7385 for more information.
- Boston Market kicks off the UA football season with a "Sing for Your Supper and Your School Challenge." The fan with the top tone who can enthusiastically sing the school fight song, or make one up, will win the grand prize and bragging rights as the "Best U of A Fan in the State." The crooning contest takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The first 50 UA football fans who show up dressed in their school colors and sing for their supper and their school will receive a free Boston Market meal. The best of the 50 baritones will win the ultimate, football-lover's package - a catered Boston Market tailgate party for 25 friends and a pair of tickets to a UA football game. Wilbur the Wildcat and the UA cheerleaders will be rooting on fans and performers. Boston Market is located on the northeast corner of Speedway Boulevard and Campbell Avenue.
- A Graduate Writing Workshop is presented by Kendra Gaines, of the Writing Skills Proficiency Program. The workshop is titled "The Basics of Academic Writing" and is free and open to all graduate students. No pre-registration is necessary - just show up! - The UA Business and Professional Women's organization has voter registration forms available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Union Arcade, located between the UA Associated Students Bookstore and the Student Union.
- "Relaxing" - 'A Symbolic Sparse Matrix Method That Exploits Model Structure to Generate Efficient Simulation Code' is presented today by Francois Cellier, of the UA Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This talk will present a new method for symbolically solving large sets of algebraically coupled equations of the sort encountered in the object-oriented modeling of physical systems.
