The University of Arizona Police Department's incoming phone lines malfunctioned Thursday afternoon.

Police noticed the 911 and general use lines were not taking calls at 12:07 p.m. The 911 calls were routed through the Tucson Police Department.

UA Telecommunications and U.S. West Communications were called. The problem was found to be with the UA phone system, and the lines began functioning again at 4 p.m.


A flag football game Wednesday at about 9:30 p.m. ended in a fight.

During the game at Rincon Fields, 501 S. Plumer Ave., a spectator reportedly ran onto the field and attacked a player. A fight erupted as "both benches" cleared, police reports stated.

A referee was hit trying to break up the fight. He received a small abrasion under his left eye.

No arrests were made. Both teams were suspended from intramural play.


Reports of loud noise Wednesday at 9:35 p.m. brought university police to the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity house, 1011 N. Tyndall Ave.

On arrival, officers could hear shouts a block away from a "new members meeting."

Tucson Police responded to the house and said they had contacted the fraternity's residents Sept. 7 about a noise complaint. The house had been warned, according to police reports.

TPD cited ZBT Vice President Eric L. Wessinger, 20, a house resident, for violating the city noise code.


A student who removed a Parking and Transportation Services lock from his motorcycle was cited Thursday for theft.

The student, Ioannis Sochos, 28, of the 1400 block of West Calle Gallego, removed his impounded cycle from a UA lot between May 24 and 27, according to police reports. University police had been attempting to reach Sochos since June.

Sochos told police he had paid off his parking tickets and that he would pay the impoundment ticket and reimburse Parking and Transportation for the lock, which he had drilled out and removed.

Police called Parking and Transportation and were informed that Marlis Davis, director of the department, wanted Sochos cited for the theft of the lock.

Sochos was cited on one count of theft of less than $250 and released.


Laundry was reported stolen Thursday from the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house, 1050 N. Cherry Ave.

A fraternity resident said he left his laundry bag outside his room for his cleaning service at 8:30 a.m. The service called him at 9 a.m. to ask where his laundry was.

The contents of the black, 30-gallon laundry bag were valued at $1,500.


A vehicle was reported damaged at the Kappa Alpha fraternity house, 906 N. First Ave., Thursday.

A resident said he left his Jeep Cherokee unlocked in the house's parking lot Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. He returned to his Jeep Thursday at 8:45 a.m. to find its steering column cracked.

It appeared someone had tried to steal the Jeep. Police were unable to lift fingerprints.

The value of the damage was unknown.


An employee's car was stolen and recovered Wednesday.

The female employee reported that her car was stolen from the UA lot at 1232 N. Cherry Ave. after 10:55 a.m. Marana Police informed the woman at 1 p.m. that her Pontiac Grand Am had been found.

There was no apparent damage to the car, but the employee's Sony Walkman and two compact discs were stolen.

The Walkman was valued at $50, the CDs at $24.


A parking permit was taken Thursday from a Jeep parked in the UA lot at East Sixth Street and North Warren Avenue.

A male employee parked his Jeep CJ-7 at 7:15 a.m. He received a parking ticket at 8:15 a.m. for parking without a permit.

The employee said the permit was hanging form the rearview mirror of the open topped Jeep.

The Zone 1 parking permit was valued at $160.
