In other actions, the Arizona Board of Regents:
- Approved university proposals to plan new academic programs. While several regents expressed concern about possible overlap and duplication among state universities, the regents approved the plans.
Among programs in the planning stages at the University of Arizona are bachelor's programs in engineering, with a liberal and technical education, and agricultural systems management. Programs to be extended are bachelor's programs in racetrack industry and doctoral programs in architecture, global change and a space engineering minor for a doctorate.
Also in the planning stage is a tri-university master's program in engineering, to be overseen by all three of the state's public universities.
- Approved program implementation for a UA doctoral degree in American Indian studies, a computational science and engineering minor for a doctorate program and for Arizona State University, a physical education master's program.
