Highly touted UA basketball recruit Stephen Jackson will not be attending the UA this fall. Jackson, a 6-foot-8-inch forward, from Port Arthur, Texas, failed to meet requirements for certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Jackson missed the qualifications of the Scholastic Aptitude Test by one point, but told UA coaches that he plans to take a refresher course for the SAT and will try and take the test again in October.

UA head coach Lute Olson is in Europe and was unavailable for comment yesterday.

Wildcat assistant coach Jim Rosborough said, "I am unable to make a comment because Stephen Jackson is now a recruitable student athlete."

UA coaches are unable to comment on recruits before they sign commitments. Since Jackson is no longer committed to Arizona, commenting on his situation would be in violation of NCAA rules.

Jackson could not be reached for comment yesterday.
