Student's ignorance of minorities 'ridiculous'

Editor:

I am writing in response to Jeff McCuen's letter ("'Minorities' should just stop whining," Sept. 11) about minorities and their inability to stop whining. Jeff, you are a freshman, and most people won't hold it against you. You are young, and in all probability, you just don't know.

But your ignorance on this subject is ridiculous. You complain how there are not enough resources for Scottish people and how minorities have more rights than whites. Hey dumb ass, look around! I guarantee you that at least 80 percent of your dorm is white. I bet that your classes are filled with more white people than minorities. The reason there are affirmative action programs is because 1) most minorities don't start with a level playing field and 2) to help young people, like yourself, realize that there are "other" races to be considerate of.

Like I said, you are a freshman, and you have time to learn. If you feel compelled to keep your horizons limited, and you think you really can't escape the "minority programs that are rear-ending" you, join the college Republicans, because until you do, your complaints are falling on deaf ears.
