A man broke a car's rearview mirror Thursday as the car turned east onto East Second Street from North Mountain Avenue.

The driver of the car said he was making a left turn at about 2 p.m. when a man stepped into the road and struck his passenger side rearview mirror.

The driver then parked his car in the Second Street Garage, 1340 E. Second Street. When the driver returned to his 1995 Dodge Neon at 3:45 p.m., there was a note on his windshield.

The note said, "If you're going to hit somebody you better kill them next time, now you're fucked."

The damage to the car was valued at $82.


A female student reported being accosted Thursday in a elevator at Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E, Fifth St.

The student told university police she got into the elevator with a male student at 8:30 p.m. As they rode, the man took the cord to his backpack and wrapped it around her neck. The student turned and looked at the man and he was laughing. The man got off on the sixth floor.

The student said she had seen the man around the hall and in the 1996 new student guide, New Faces of Arizona.

The student she did not want to press charges but wanted police to talk to the man.

Police talked to the man, who said he was "just joking around." Police informed the man of the possible consequences of his actions.


A man with a handgun was reported Thursday at East First Street and North Park Avenue.

A Parking and Transportation Services employee saw a man in a brown Ford Escort carrying the gun. University police stopped the car at East Eighth Street and North Euclid Avenue.

Police, with their guns drawn, ordered three males out of the car. They found five plastic squirt guns in the car. Tucson Police Department officers arrived and took over the case, releasing the three men.


A security officer citing bikers for riding on the sidewalk Wednesday was allegedly assaulted by one outside the Memorial Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd.

The biker, Daniel B. Howe, 25, of the 9000 block of East Falcon Point Drive, rode east on East University Boulevard. University police responded and saw Howe run a stop sign at University and North Cherry Avenue.

Police ordered Howe to pull over several times before he finally stopped.

The security officer decided not to press assault charges, but police cited Howe for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to stop for an audible or visible signal from law enforcement. He was released at the scene.

Police reports did not state how Howe allegedly assaulted the security officer.


A truck was burglarized Tuesday in the UA lot at East Helen Street and North Warren Avenue.

A student was walking out of the Arizona Health Sciences Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., when he saw the dome light to his 1992 Ford pickup truck was on. He ran to the car and saw the passenger side door open and a man in the cab.

The man got into a red Jeep Cherokee driven by another man. The two drove south on North Campbell Avenue.

There was no sign of forced entry to the truck but several items were taken. A medical diagnostic kit valued at $300, a portable compact disc player valued at $100, 30 CDs valued at $300 and a pair of Armani sun glasses valued at $200 were taken. The ignition switch of the truck was also damaged. The value of the damage was unknown.


A sport utility vehicle was damaged Thursday in the UA lot at East Sixth Street and North Highland Avenue.

A female student said she parked her 1996 Jeep Cherokee in the lot at 1 a.m. She returned at 9:15 a.m. and noticed the rear passenger side window damaged. When she shut another door, the window shattered.

The damage was valued at $500.
