The Undergraduate Senate is expected to vote tonight on the approval of a long awaited budget for the Associated Students.

ASUA has been operating on leftover funds from its summer budget while awaiting the signing of a separation agreement with the Graduate and Professional Student Council.

"We had hoped to get an agreement worked out with GPSC before we came up with a budget," said Gilbert Davidson, chairman of the Undergraduate Senate.

Davidson said the 1996-97 ASUA budget of $556,500 will be cut by $62,500 to provide funding for GPSC once the separation is official.

Davidson said the money set aside for GPSC drastically cuts away from the ASUA general allocation fund, but added, "we were forced to really analyze where we are putting our resources."

Mindy McCollum, ASUA vice president for programs and services, said the budget cut complicated the process of allocating funds. She said certain programs and services may have to seek outside sponsorship if there is not enough funding in the future.

"We took a big cut with the GPSC split, but I think we did the best we could with what resources we had," she said.

Davidson said the Undergraduate Senate will also address the implementation of internal bylaws at tonight's meeting.

He said the Senate is in the process of writing its own set of bylaws to explain quorum requirements, voting, office procedures, budgetary matters and office hours for senators.

"We are still discussing what direction to take with these issues," Davidson explained.

The Undergraduate Senate meets at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Student Union Santa Rita Room.
