Numerous items were taken Sunday from a Phoenix area basketball team's van as they played in a tournament on the UA campus.

The van was parked in the Second Street Garage, 1340 E. Second St., the team's coach told university police.

As the team played, the coach saw one of his players and a player from another team leave Bear Down Gymnasium.

The team returned to the van at 5 p.m. and found the back door open.

As the team drove home, they discovered several items missing from their gym bags, according to police reports.

A parent of one of the team members told the coach he had seen the two youths going through the gym bags of the team.

One of the youths admitted to being in the garage, but said he was there because "a friend of his had gotten a ticket," according to police reports. He denied any knowledge of the missing items.

Both youths are students at Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix.

A Kenwood portable compact disc player, a Sony portable CD player, a Sony Walkman, a Nintendo Game Boy, 30 CDs and five Game Boy cartridges were taken. The value of the items was not known, however $200 in cash was also taken from the van.
