The Wildcats are in search of their first Pacific 10 Conference victory this weekend, but will have to battle for the win without one of their senior leaders on the field.

Arizona (3-6 overall, 0-2 in the Pac-10) will travel to Corvallis, Ore., this weekend for a pair of games. The team will take on Gonzaga in a neutral contest tomorrow morning and will battle Oregon State on Sunday morning.

Yesterday, results came back revealing that senior goalkeeper Jen Weibel is out for the season. Weibel pulled the posterior cruciate ligament in her left knee against Wyoming last Monday.

Weibel's departure is a significant loss to the team, but head coach Lisa Fraser is confident that sophomore goalkeeper Christa Conway will be able to fill the position.

"This is a really hard loss," Fraser said. "Jen has been with us for two years, but I'm confident that Christa can step up for us."

Conway recorded three saves after replacing Weibel and played in the team's third shutout victory over Wyoming last Monday.

In addition to Weibel, junior midfielder Kim Veeder is sitting out this season after having surgery on her right foot before the season started.

Sophomore defender Jillian Bressler, who strained her groin last week, is expected to play this weekend, but sophomore defender Kate Mattson is out for the weekend after hyper-extending her knee last week.

Fraser said that despite the injuries, the team is hoping to make up for the early-season losses.

"I think we should have had a few more wins from our first two road trips, so hopefully we can come out and pick up a couple of wins to balance things out," Fraser said.

Junior midfielder Emily Bumps said this weekend is important in keeping the team's confidence level up for the remainder of the season.

"We're 3-6 right now and we really want to get in the position where we can get even and start winning some games to better our record," Bumps said.

Arizona's contest with Gonzaga this weekend will mark the first time the two teams have met.
