Intramural referees don't get in way of 'friendly competion' on the field

Editor:

Craig Degel, we need to talk ("Thoughts on intramurals, baseball," Oct. 2). I'd have to say I'm a pretty easy-going person. It takes quite a bit to make my blood boil. For the first time in a long time, I feel really pissed off.

Let's review what intramural sports are supposed to be about and who intramural sports are available for: "All intramural activities are classified as recreational sports in the sense that they are less competitive and more cooperative than interscholastic or intercollegiate athletes. The primary reason for playing intramural sports should always be relaxation, exercise, social interaction, and friendly competition" (Intramural Handbook).

Now, Craig, if you don't want to participate under these rules - don't play! You're no fun to ref for anyway! For the amount of money we're getting paid ($4.25) to monitor your attitude, we're not worth your time, and you sure aren't worth ours. Intramurals are for those people who want to have fun, meet new people and take a break from stress. That's right, "If you can do a better job, grab a whistle." Let the rest of us enjoy the activity.
