The Arizona women's golf team solidified its claim to the No. 1 ranking, cruising to a 15-stroke win at the Rolex NCAA Preview at the Ohio State Scarlet Course in Columbus. Led by Marisa Baena, who took home the individual title, the Wildcats carded a three-round 51-over par 915 at the par-72, 6,114-yard course.

Wake Forest was second with a 930 score, and Arizona State was fourth with a 939.

Shooting her third 73 in a row, Baena's three-day total of 3-over par 219 was one stroke better than Duke's Jenny Chuasiriporn. Baena, the nation's top-ranked player, recorded her second title in as many tournaments this season.

UA freshman Jill Gomric shot each round below 80 to finish with a score of 233, good enough for 10th place. Heather Graff and Christina Tolerton tied for 17th, each with a 235 total. Jenna Daniels carded a 237 for 27th place.

2 UA women awarded

For the first time in UA history, two female athletes have been awarded the Honda-Broderick Sports Award, an honor that signifies the athlete of the year for their respective sports.

Baena and former UA softball player Jenny Dalton were recognized for their achievements and are now among the 11 finalists for the Collegiate Woman of the Year Award. The Honda-Broderick Cup will be presented at a January banquet held in conjunction with the NCAA convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Baena won the NCAA individual golf championship as a freshman last year and helped the Wildcats capture the team title as well - the first-ever for the UA women's golf team.

The Pereria, Colombia native was the Rolex Women's Golfer of the Year and the Pacific 10 Conference champion. Baena won six tournaments overall last year and won a spot at the U.S. Women's Open, where she recorded the second-lowest amateur score. She is currently the No. 1-ranked golfer in the nation.

Dalton helped guide the Wildcats to their fourth NCAA softball title in six years last season while leading the nation in home runs with 25 and in RBI with 109. Dalton was the first Pac-10 player to win the triple crown.

The NCAA career leader in runs scored (293), walks (178) and slugging percentage (.815), Dalton was the World Series most valuable player and a unanimous All-America selection. Dalton was a GTE Academic All-American and graduated with a degree in elementary education last May.
