Police negotiators talked a Tucson man down from the top level of Arizona Stadium Saturday evening after he threatened to jump and kill himself.

According to University of Arizona Police Department reports, a custodian called officers after seeing the man atop the stadium's east bleachers, 525 N. Warren Ave., at 6:47 p.m.

Officers arrived to find the man standing alone on a concrete wall above Section 207 and then radioed Tucson Fire Department paramedics and Tucson police crisis negotiators.

According to police reports, UAPD Officer Juan Alvarez approached the man, who warned him to keep back. Alvarez reportedly conversed with the man for 20 minutes until Tucson police arrived.

Negotiators spoke with the man until 7:56 p.m., when they convinced him to come down.

The man told officers his medication had been stolen and Tucson police did not respond to his calls, UAPD reports stated.

University police transported the man to the Arizona Health Sciences Center for a medical evaluation. He was later committed to Kino Community Hospital for treatment and evaluation.
