Thoughts on Kerri, Tiger and Jake

A few observations from my favorite weekend destination: Margaritaville.

Some people see Elvis, others see UFOs.

I can top that.

At exactly 2:34 a.m. Sunday, while walking down Westwood Boulevard toward Don Antonio's Italian Restuarant near UCLA, I saw her.

Kerri Strug.

And she was coming toward me.

She walked right by me - close enough to spit on her.

But hey, I'm no Roberto Alomar.

Actually, my annoyance with Kerri has worn off. I got pretty tired of seeing her on television, but then I realized that I'm the same guy who keeps his "Greatest Moments in Baseball History" video cued up to Kirk Gibson's home run in the 1988 World Series. ...

Watching Richard Dice limp out of the locker room and into his mother's arms after Arizona's 14-7 loss to Southern Cal was probably one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

Arguably the best receiver right now in the conference and the best Arizona has ever had, Dice has been bitten by the injury bug more times than anybody deserves. Now he may be gone for the season.

Still, it's never a good idea to count Dice out - just ask Arizona State. ...

Jake Plummer? Heisman Trophy candidate? I'll buy that. ...

Tiger Woods for President. ...

I'm excited to see this year's UA basketball team. Comparing a team that's never hit the floor together in a game to, not one, but two Final Four teams? That's hype that not even Dick Vitale could generate. ...

I'd like to make a prediction. Not that anybody believes in mine anymore, but I think Ohio State is going to get screwed out of a national championship. Just like Penn State in 1994, Ohio State had a bad game against a Big Ten school (the Buckeyes beat Wisconsin 17-14 Saturday). In 1994, Penn State beat Indiana 35-29 and lost first-place votes. The Nittany Lions went undefeated and finished second to Nebraska.

The Buckeyes may suffer the same fate unless both Florida and Florida State lose a game. ...

Tiger Woods for President. ...

Am I the only man on earth who likes Dan Dierdorf's commentary on Monday Night Football? ...

I just heard that Akron, that national football powerhouse, signed up to play Nebraska.

Now, I guess instead of beating up on their girlfriends and people in bars, the Cornhuskers will pick on somebody else. Or, maybe Arizona State just scared them away from playing anybody worth a damn in their nonconference schedule.
