Two youths were arrested Friday after a burglary at the College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd.

At 1:45 p.m., two boys, 17, stole a jar containing about $53, an employee of the Common Grounds coffee kiosk in the College of Law lobby told police. The youths then left and ran east on Speedway .

Two male students chased the boys to the Electrical and Computer Engineering building, 1230 E. Speedway Blvd., where they stopped running.

The boys told the students they had taken the money for food. One of the students gave the boys $3 and then returned the jar to the kiosk.

No money was missing from the jar.

Later that day, the Tucson Police Department received a call that two youths were on a Sun Tran bus bragging about a crime they had gotten away with. The youths were detained when they got off the bus at Speedway Boulevard and North Kolb Road.

A witness identified the youths as the same boys from the College of Law, and they were taken to university police headquarters.

One of the boys had an unloaded Smith and Wesson .38 revolver in his backpack.

At police headquarters, the boy with the gun asked to speak to a lawyer.

After speaking with the lawyer, the boy told police he had been in the College of Law but had not taken anything. He denied any knowledge of the gun.

The other boy told police the gun belonged to his father, and that he carried it for protection. He also admitted taking the jar.

The boy who had the gun in his backpack then changed his story and admitted knowledge of the gun and the theft. He told police he had lied because he did not want to be a "snitch."

The boy with the gun in his backpack was arrested for two counts of burglary and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. The other boy was arrested on two counts of burglary.

Both were booked into the Pima County Juvenile Court Center.

A Tucson man was arrested on DUI and resisting arrest charges Friday after he and another man ran from their vehicle after being stopped for speeding.

At 1:11 a.m., police saw a black Chevrolet pickup truck drive east on East Sixth Street at 60 mph. The speed limit on Sixth Street is 30 mph.

Police pursued the truck north on North Campbell Avenue until it turned west on to East Enke Drive and stopped.

The two occupants of the truck got out and ran off.

The driver, Jeffrey S. Homack, 21, of the 5000 block of East Fifth Street, was caught by a university police officer after he slipped crossing Campbell Avenue. The passenger got away.

Homack was "squirming vigorously" as the officer restrained him, police reports stated. Homack smelled of alcohol, police reports stated.

Homack continued to resist until another police officer arrived and handcuffed him, reports stated. He was taken to university police headquarters.

Police administered three intoxilyzer tests which showed Homack's blood alcohol content was .192, .196 and .191. The legal limit is .10.

Homack was cited for criminal speeding, DUI impaired in the slightest degree, DUI with a blood alcohol content greater than .10 and resisting arrest. He was released at police headquarters.

University police were called Saturday to Hopi Residence Hall, 1440 E. Fourth St.

An incident involving a male and female student was reported at 12:47 a.m.

Police spoke to the male student, who said the female student had been outside his door and he wanted to talk to her. She, however, did not want to talk to him, he told police.

The man told police he grabbed the female student by the arm and dragged her into his room, according to police reports.

The two sat on the bed and talked, but the female student wanted to leave. The man told police he restrained the woman.

The woman tried to leave several times, eventually calling for help, the man told police. The man pushed the woman into a corner of the room, letting her go when his roommate opened the door, he told police.

The woman did not want to press charges, and the man's brother arrived and took him home.

The hall director said steps would be taken so that two would no longer live in the same residence hall.

No citations were issued.
