David Morales

Republican

Graduated from Marana High School and attended Pima Community College. He works as a miner at BHP Copper. He served as a Marana Town Council member from 1987 to 1991. Morales supports allowing parents great latitude in selecting public, charter or private schools with sliding scale assistance or tax credits. He supports traditional families, tax cuts to attract businesses and stimulate the economy, abstinence education and self-respect programs in schools. He is anti-abortion and pro-adoption.

Elaine Richardson

Democrat

incumbent

Attended Pima Community College and the UA. Richardson has served as a state representative for four years. She is a single parent and has been a small business owner since 1978.

Richardson has sponsored legislation to provide funding for the development of affordable housing in rural areas and was the lead sponsor of the School Safety Zone bill designed to make schools and children safer and to punish those who commit crimes in or near schools. She sponsored legislation to protect homeowners' rights in planned communities and legislation providing a property tax exemption for personal property used for trade, business or agricultural purposes. She voted for same-sex marriages and supports safe-sex programs in schools.

Dave Turner

Republican

Turner studied civil engineering at the UA. He is an engineer and former owner of several companies that assist businesses dealing with environmental clean-up. He is a member of the Tucson Chamber of Commerce, Tucson Rotary and Property Owners Association. He says he will work to strengthen families and neighborhoods, to reduce juvenile crime, and work to create more job opportunities.

George Cunningham

Democrat

Incumbent

Cunningham earned his bachelor's degree in science and public administration and master's degree in public administration from the UA. Cunningham has served as a state representative since 1992 and as chief of staff to former Gov. Rose Mofford. Goals include making public school funding more equitable and putting more police officers on the streets and in schools.

Senate District 14

Jim Kisner

Republican

Kisner received his associate's degree in fire science from Pima Community College. He is the Flowing Wells Fire District chief and has worked for the district as a lobbyist. His goals include reducing government requirements for small businesses, reducing government and cutting taxes.

Ruth Solomon

Democrat

incumbent

Solomon received her bachelor's degree in education from the UA. Solomon, a teacher in TUSD, served as a state representative from 1988 to 1994 and as a state senator since 1995. She has sponsored legislation to improve neighborhood schools and co-sponsored legislation to reduce business inventory taxes. Hopes to make school funding more equitable and reform the juvenile justice system.
