Fact of the Day
The Democratic Party collected a record-breaking $100 million in "soft" money - contributions to parties, not candidates - which is not subject to legal limits. Individuals within political parties are limited to giving $1,000 per election and corporate political action groups are limited to $5,000.
One of the top donors was Steven Spielberg, who donated $525,000 to the Democratic Party.
