Arizona freshman guard Ortege Jenkins will miss the entire 1996-97 basketball season due to a left knee injury he sustained in practice on Friday afternoon.
After Jenkins met with the team's medical staff yesterday morning, his injury was diagnosed as a torn anterior cruciate ligament. To complicate matters, he may have a medial meniscus tear in the knee as well. Jenkins will undergo reconstructive surgery so metime in the next two weeks.
Following the surgery, he will undergo six to nine months of rehabilitation but he is expected to be ready for both the Arizona football and basketball seasons next year. A walk-on on the basketball team, Jenkins is a scholarship quarterback on the UA foo tball team. He redshirted this season.
