Stop 'malice' - give ASU football team some credit

Editor:

We as a school need to get behind our football team, and give them a round of booing for the comments they've made about Arizona State University lately. It seems the yearly rivalry has become the secondary to shaming and humiliating a fellow PAC-10 team, and keep them from getting to the Rose Bowl.

What has happened to sportsman-ship this week? Is the UA football team so jaded and frustrated at the prospect of a losing season, that they would trash ASU out of spite? Does anyone else see a problem with this? I see two.

The first is that UA players want "revenge" to keep a winning tradition over ASU alive. If the tradition has become one of malice and hate, is it really worth keeping?

The second problem is that the UA football team won't even admit that ASU has a good team this year, and deserves to go to the Rose Bowl. If our football team cannot cheer for a team from Arizona that's made good, despite ideologies, rivalries and such, t hen do we have a caliber of team that we want? I don't think so. I'm rooting for Arizona State this Saturday. If UA football cannot hang up the bitterness for this season, then ASU has already won even before they take the field. GO ASU! Let us be big eno ugh too give credit where it's due.
