It's no surprise that the Arizona Icecats (10-0) remained undefeated after the two-game sweep against No. 18 Wisconsin-Whitewater over the weekend.

The eighth-ranked Icecats (10-0), who were offensively superior to Whitewater, almost mirrored their Friday night victory of 11-4 by beating the Warhawks 11-5 Saturday night in front of 4,103 fans at the Tucson Convention Center.

What was surprising, however, was the Icecats' sluggish start on offense, taking a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.

"It's not that we came out flat, categorically," Icecat coach Leo Golembiewski said. "We came out soft in the context of transition and shooting."

The first-period goal didn't come until 18:51 on a power-play goal from co-captain Peter Scott off of assists from Paul Juran and Brian Consolino.

After the first intermission, the Warhawks (6-6) came out flying from all angles, scoring three goals on Beau LeMire in the first 10 minutes of play.

"He had a solid first period," Golembiewski said. "At times in the second period he may not have been as strong, but he came out strong in the first period - that was really important."

Sophomore Bob Majka sparked the Icecat offense, scoring at 11:05 off of assists from Andy Knick and Ben Ruston.

Scoring would continue into the second period for the Icecats, with four more goals to increase the lead to 6-3 in the third period.

"We started really harping on transition. When the speed kicked in, we scored goals," Golembiewski said.

The transition game led the Icecats to 64 shots on goal and limited the Warhawks to only 29.

Golembiewski said the team had to depend on their style of play.

"We're a fast-break, quick team and we have to rely on our speed," he said.
