After receiving a pounding from No. 2 Stanford on Thursday night, the 20th-ranked UA volleyball team came back on Friday to inflict reciprocal punishment on California.

The Wildcats (19-9 overall, 10-8 in the Pacific 10 Conference) beat California (7-19, 3-15) 15-8, 15-2, 15-7, and lost to Stanford 15-8, 15-6, 15-9 in their last two regular-season matches. The team's record makes it eligible for the NCAA tournament, but it is unsure if it will be at home. The tournament selections will be announced Sunday, with the first round starting Dec. 4.

Against the Golden Bears, the Wildcats were led by outside hitter Barb Bell's 21 kills. Her .421 hitting percentage in the match was one of her best performances all season. Carolyn Penfield had 17 kills of her own with a .448 hitting percentage. Michaela Ebben had another solid night at the setter position with 46 assists and 10 digs. Arizona had 13 team blocks, with Stephanie Venne and Michelle Fanger having five blocks apiece.
