Disabled students should work with new ASD director to solve problems

Editor:

After reading Todd Hardy's Nov. 27 story, "Disable students unhappy with new director," I was outraged!

First, Brian McCracken and his crew of Ann Fowler protesters need to get over the fact that someone else was selected to be the new Association of Students with Disabilities director, because it was decided that she would do a better and more effective job. Unfortunately, Ann has had some difficulty in getting ASD to where she and other disabled students would like it to be, but she shouldn't be blamed for that.

I have been to both ASD meetings this semester to support my good friend, Ann. At these meetings, she is there with her agenda to get things going, but it is difficult to be productive when only two or three disabled students attend these meetings, and they shoot down her ideas and offer no alternative suggestions. Philanthropies are canceled due to no participation.

Nothing is happening because no one, except Ann, is doing a thing. ASD is a student body organization and Ann Fowler cannot be expected to do everything in order for it to be productive. Instead of attacking Ann, Brian McCracken needs to focus his attention on getting more students to attend the ASD meetings.

Todd Hardy needs to get his facts straight before printing his story on the

front page of the Daily Wildcat. I felt his story lacked any professionalism because it was incredibly biased against Ann, with her side of the story barely discussed. Plus, he was also totally incorrect about the facts of Ann's accident.

Ann is an effective leader, but no one can be very productive while being attacked from all sides and receiving no support. In order for ASD to be a strong organization on campus, it needs the support of everyone. So for all of you that are against Ann Fowler, learn to work together in a positive, rather than negative way or ASD actually will be the ruined organization that some believe it already is.
