UA's Gilliand given provost job at Tulane UniversityA UA administrator was named provost of Tulane University, the New Orleans university announced MondayAccording to a Tulane news release, Martha Gilliand, University of Arizona academic vice president, will assume her new position June 1. "I am attracted to Tulane in part because I sense a high level of trust among faculty, staff and administrators," Gilliand said in the news release. Gilliand will replace James Kilroy, who resigned last June. "I think Martha Gilliand is very well suited to be the next provost of Tulane University. She is extremely talented with an abundance of academic administrative experience," Tulane President Eamon Kelly said in the news release. "As I consider what a loss Dr. Martha Gilliand's departure will be for the University of Arizona, I must commend Tulane University of their selection of an outstanding leader to serve as their next provost," UA President Manuel Pacheco said in another news release. "Her contributions to the university have been numerous as she moved through the ranks," he said. Gilliand has been at UA since 1990. Prior to her position as academic vice president, Gilliand served in various positions, including dean of the graduate college and interim vice president for research. -D. Shayne Christie |
