Calendar

Tonight:

  • So many darn acronyms, so little time. I.G.P. aka Intergalactic Groin Pull plays Third Stone this evening. Hey we love 80's night at Congress, too, but the cover is only a buck and the buzz on the street is that these guys really rock. Show time is 9 PM. 628-8844

Friday:

  • World champion tractor pull gods Slo Deluxe will be performing something entitled "Buck Owens off-ramp of revenatism" @ the G-Spot, a warehouse space located somewhere behind the Sweetwater Cafe on the corner of Fourth Ave and 6th St. Show starts at 9 PM sharp with Goat Songs 2 and A James Jordan opening. This is an all ages event and a donation is requested.

  • Hotel Congress hosts the industrial-dance terror of White Chrome Splendor, with locals SnakeCharmer and Supermonkey kicking off the evening. $4. 622-8848

Saturday:

  • Crawdaddy-o plays @ Airport Lounge on Saturday evening. You've gotta hand it to the Airport Lounge for consistently booking an odd assortment of bands - one weekend it'll be Pork Torta, the next it'll be a band that plays traditional Cajun Mardi Gras music with orchestration that includes "a giant 80 pound tuba thing." There's a two dollar cover. 882-0400

Sunday:

  • Maybe it's time we paused for a second to think about why we have a three day weekend - to commemorate one of the great civil rights leaders of all time, Mr. Martin Luther King. But it is also a chance to pause and realize how far we have left to go. In that spirit, Spike Lee's "Get on the Bus," the prolific filmmaker's take on the historic Million Man March, plays at Gallagher Theatre Friday through Monday. For info and showtimes call 621-3102.

Upcoming:

  • Unplugged insanity @ The Third Stone. 9 Day's Wander and Alana Swidler play mellow, accoustic sets on Tuesday night. Mark your social calendar, it should be pretty nice.
