Campus was bustling, temperatures were soaring, lightning was striking, and Joseph Blair was eating.People were talking, and we were listening
"Oh, Joseph, we're so proud of you."
Joseph Blair, a former UA center who was drafted in June by the Seattle Supersonics, was on campus early this week getting breakfast at the Fiddlee Fig. Sure, he wasn't an Academic All-American, but he's got a better job than the rest of us.
"You can either buy the extra value meal at McDonald's or you can buy my textbook."
Yes, textbook prices are outrageous. The payback you get when you resell them is even less outrageous, and lines outside the UA Bookstore are still outrageous. A hint: Buy the extra value meal first and eat it while you're waiting in line to buy books that cost the same as ten extra value meals.
"Energize yourself. Breathe into the body part that needs the most attention. From this moment forward, you can be a better person."
When did Tony Robbins get a teaching job at the UA? This is pretty inspiring stuff, good advice to get you through the first couple weeks.
"This winter better damn well make up for it."
So much for dry heat. There's been enough lightning in Tucson lately to recharge the laptop computers given to each student at the Arizona International Campus.
"Will you take over? This campus is filled with stupid people!"
This delivery driver had enough with students cutting him off in midday traffic. Come on, kids. Look both ways before you cross, and realize that cars, trucks, and bikes need to get through, too.
"I was going to quit my last semester here."
What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger. We're here for a reason, to get an education. That struggle is never easy, but always worthwhile. Welcome back.
"This campus is pretty busy."
So is Disneyland, and the cost is outrageous to get in there, too.
