By Keith J. Allen Arizona Daily Wildcat January 23, 1997 Police BeatA Carnes Construction Inc. employee reported two tools missing Tuesday from a work site at 1145 E. Fourth St.According to university police reports, the employee told police a male temporary employee told him that another male temporary employee showed him a Milwaukee "Sawzall" and Milwaukee one-half inch drill after the two temporary employees got off work Monday. The tools had been engraved with "Carnes Construction," the employee told police. According to police reports, the temporary employee told police the second temporary employee asked him where he could sell the tools. The first temporary employee told police he told the second temporary employee to leave. The temporary employment service tried to contact the second temporary employee Tuesday, but it was discovered that he had left the Primavera Shelter, 200 North Benson Highway, where he lived, reports stated. Police contacted three local tool shops and told them to call police if anyone attempts to sell the tools.
A woman was arrested Monday on a charge of minor operating a vehicle with liquor in the body after university police stopped her vehicle because it had no license plate lamp. According to police reports, while the officer spoke with the driver, Nicole J. Franco, 19, of the 600 block of East Second Street, the "odor of intoxicating liquor" came from the car. However, Franco told police she had not been drinking. After Franco got out of the car, the officer smelled a slight odor of intoxicating liquor coming from Franco's breath, police reports stated. After agreeing to a visual test, Franco was arrested on a charge of minor operating a vehicle with liquor in the body. While searching Franco, officers found a canister containing a small quantity of marijuana in her right front pants pocket, police reports stated. Franco was also cited on the charge of possession of marijuana. Franco was taken to university police headquarters and took both urine and breath tests. During Intoxilyzer breath tests, Franco registered a blood-alcohol content of .051 and .046. The legal limit is .10. Franco was cited and released to her roommate.
A female UA employee reported her wallet and other items missing Sunday from the Maloney Theater, 1025 N. Olive Road. The employee told police she left her wallet in her briefcase at noon, and when she returned at 3:30 p.m., it was gone. The imitation leather wallet was valued at $10. Other items taken included a $10 bill, a $5 bill, a Discover credit card, AT&T Mastercard, Bank of America Visa, Tennessee driver's license, social security card and UA Faculty card. The values of the cards were unknown.
A male UA employee reported his motorcycle tank bag and other items missing Friday near Steward Observatory, 933 N. Cherry Ave. The man left his 1991 Honda motorcycle at 8:30 a.m. When he returned at 6 p.m., he noticed his tank bag missing. The tank bag was valued at $70. Other items in the bag included $417 worth of rock climbing equipment, miscellaneous clothing valued at $50 and a digital pressure gauge valued at $12. According to the police report, all of the climbing equipment was marked with green fingernail polish.
A male student reported two items missing from his seventh-floor room at Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St. The student told police he left the room on Dec. 18 for winter break. When he returned Jan. 13, he noticed a Skil power drill and Koss portable compact disc player missing. The drill was valued at $50 and the CD player at $90.
A male UA employee reported Monday the back tire of his bike stolen from the Electrical and Computer Engineering building, 1230 E. Speedway Blvd. The man left his Trek 930 mountain bicycle parked with the front tire U-locked to a bike rack Friday at 6 p.m. When he return at 10:45 p.m., the back tire of his bike was gone, but the bike was still there. The value of the tire was $135.
