Editorial cartoon was unclear, but clearly, not all pro-lifers are violent

Editor:

The cartoon on the opinions page (Jan. 22) of the Wildcat left me wondering what exactly Chad Strawderman was conveying.

If his point was to show the obvious contradiction of a "pro-life" position that advocates violence as a means to stop the practice of aborting unborn children, I agree with his analysis. If his point is to claim some correlation between being pro-life and advocating violence as a means to stopping abortions, I most vehemently object. To make such a grossly inaccurate generalization about people who posit themselves as pro-life is slanderous. The actions of the few ought to never define the character of an entire group or movement. Such demonizing will do nothing to help stop such horrid violence in the name of defending life. Rather, it will only further alienate people and stifle meaningful dialogue on this contentious question of abortion.

Level-headedness and prudence are supremely necessary in the hostile cultural atmosphere of the present.
