UA upsets No. 2 Ohio

The No. 3 Icecats upset two-time defending national champion and current No. 2 Ohio 7-5 last night in Athens, Ohio.

It was just the third time in the last three years the Bobcats have lost on their home ice.

Ohio got off to a 1-0 lead after the first period but the game was a seesaw battle the rest of the way.

"We didn't come out strong in the first period," Icecat coach Leo Golembiewski said. "We did this without a full team. This (Arizona) is a good hockey team."

Icecats goaltender Beau LeMire stopped 27 shots playing behind an Icecat defense depleted by injuries to key players.

Ace Pascual led the Icecats with a goal and three assists.

Sam Battaglia notched an open-net goal with 26 seconds remaining to put an exclamation point on the win. Ohio notched a goal with 17 seconnds remaining but it was too little, too late.

"I'm so very proud of my players," Golembiewski said. "They had a great effort all the way around."
