Police Beat

A male student was arrested on a charge of theft by control Friday after a missing parking pass was found in his vehicle at Main Gate Parking Garage, 888 N. Euclid Ave.

A UA Parking and Transportation Services employee told university police that after checking a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer, he discovered a parking permit which had been reported missing.

According to police reports, the permit number was obstructed by air fresheners hanging from the rear view mirror, and the employee had to shake the vehicle to see the numbers.

Two more Parking and Transportation Services employees confirmed the permit's number, police reports stated. The employees took pictures of the permit.

The employee cited the vehicle for having an obstructed permit and impounded the vehicle due to the permit's status, reports stated.

The owner of the vehicle, Joshua B. Johnloz, 18, a resident of Coronado Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., told police he found the permit and placed it in his vehicle. He told police that after receiving the Parking and Transportation Services' ticket, he threw the permit in a dumpster.

Johnloz was cited on a charge of theft by control under $250 and released.

Two men were cited Saturday on charges relating to marijuana and drug paraphernalia after university police stopped their vehicle for speeding, police reports stated.

Police stopped a 1991 Honda Civic at East Sixth Street and North Martin Avenue after pacing it at a high rate of speed, police stated.

When police approached the car, they noticed the driver, Nathan S. Stroehle, 22, of the 3000 block of East Waverly Street, had "extremely bloodshot eyes."

After getting out of the car, Stroehle performed field sobriety tests. According to police reports, officers felt Stroehle was impaired, but they also noticed that he was shaking heavily and kept touching his right front pants pocket.

Police asked Stroehle to take out what he had in his pocket, and he removed a lighter and then several $1 bills. After police asked a third time, he removed a pack of cigarettes, which police found to be "marijuana cigarettes."

Stroehle told police he and the car's occupants had smoked marijuana that evening. He told police he was driving because he was the "best of the three."

Stroehle was then placed under arrest on a charge of possession of marijuana.

Police searched the car and found a backpack belonging to Troy E. Allen, 22, of the 2000 block West Jennie Lane, containing a green metallic smoking pipe with "marijuana residue," reports stated.

Allen was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stroehle and Allen were released at the scene.

A woman was arrested on a DUI charge Saturday after university police saw her car swerve out of its lane, police reports stated.

Police reported seeing a 1989 Nissan 300ZX fail to stay within the lane while traveling northbound on North Euclid Avenue approaching East Second Street.

The vehicle kept stopping and starting on the road, and turned on alternate turn signals, police reports stated. While approaching East Speedway Boulevard, the vehicle made a wide right turn into Speedway's westbound lane before swerving and continuing on Euclid, the reports stated.

The car came to a stop on Euclid near East Helen Street.

When police approached the car, they smelled the "overwhelming odor of intoxicating beverage" coming from the car, police reports stated.

The driver, Maria V. Moreno, 43, of the 100 block of East Mciver Place, did not have her driver's license or car's registration, reports stated. According to police reports, Moreno smelled of "overwhelming odor of intoxicating beverage."

When asked if she had been drinking, Moreno said, "I'm drunk. Yes, we've been drinking."

Moreno was then arrested on a charge of DUI.

Once at police headquarters, Moreno refused to take Intoxilyzer breath tests, police reports stated.

Moreno was cited on the charges of DUI, failure to stay within the traffic lane and no driver's license in possession. She was released to her mother.
