By Keith J. Allen Arizona Daily Wildcat January 30, 1997 Police BeatA female student reported harassing phone calls Monday to her room in Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1420 E. Fifth St.The student told university police she received the first call Thursday about 10 p.m. In that call, the male caller whispered the student's name and then hung up, police reports stated. The student told police she received "two or three" more hang-up calls Sunday about 9:30 p.m. The last call from the man said he was going to kill a male friend of the student. Police advised the student of the *57 feature to trace on-campus calls.
A female UA employee reported receiving a harassing electronic mail message while checking her account Monday at the Ina E. Gittings Building, 1713 E. University Blvd. According to university police reports, the employee was checking her e-mail about 10:30 a.m. when she found a message sent from an account on the u.arizona.edu system. The employee told police that the message was signed by someone different than the account's owner. The message asked the employee to meet the signer for dinner. It also asked her not to say no because the signer "wouldn't want any accidents to happen to you." "You never know, I might have to feed your little blue fish to my cat," the message said. The employee told police she felt threatened and harassed by the message. Police found the names of both the message's signee and account's owner in the UA Student/Faculty/Staff Directory and contacted both. The man with the name of the message's signee said he had no idea why his name would be on an e-mail directed to the Ina E. Gittings Building, reports stated. According to police reports, the account's owner was unable to be contacted.
University police arrested a man on a charge of criminal trespassing Friday at McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Drive. Police found Chad E. Carter, 26, of a general delivery address, lying down on the west side of the second concourse of McKale Center. Carter told police he was waiting for a swim meet to start because he was on the swim team. After a records check, police found that Carter had been previously warned of criminal trespassing. Carter was arrested on a charge of criminal trespassing and was transported to Pima County Jail where he was accepted by pre-trial services.
A female student reported a threatening phone call Sunday at Babcock Inn Residence Hall, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd. The student told police an unidentified male caller told her to "leave Tucson." The man also told her he had an "AK" pointed at her "ass," police reports stated. The student told police the man knew her by name. She also said she received another harassing phone call Dec. 13 that might be related to the recent call.
A male student reported his bike missing Monday from a cement bike rack outside the Economics building, 1110 E. North Campus Drive. The student told university police he locked the Diamond Back "Accent" mountain bike at 10 a.m. with a combination lock. When he returned at 3 p.m., the bike was gone. According to police reports, the student said no one else knew the lock's combination. The bike was valued at $450.
A female student reported her fanny pack missing Saturday from the College of Law, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd. The student told police she left her canvas "Bushwhacker" fanny pack and some personal items in it at 4 p.m. on the Law Library's floor. When she returned at 4:30 p.m., the fanny pack and the items in it were gone. The fanny pack was valued at $10, a Mace canister at $6 and a UA paycheck at $240.73. A key set, Arizona driver's license, UA student identification card, Norwest bank card, checkbook, social security card in the pack were of unknown value.
