- The Center for Computing and Information Technology offers a free orientation to Computing Resources on campus in the CCIT Building Room 311 from 10 a.m. until noon.
The orientation familiarizes participants with the technological resources on campus and how to access them.
- The Library offers a free workshop, "Internet: Beyond the Basics," in the Science and Engineering Library Room 311 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
- The workshop covers the features of Netscape Navigator software, including advanced searching techniques, file transfer protocol and bookmarks. The workshop is designed for those who have attended the "Introduction to the Internet" workshop.
- In celebration of Jewish Awareness month, the Hillel Foundation is hosting traditional and modern Israeli dancing in the Memorial Student Union Room 256 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
- The Arizona Prevention Center presents Douglas Taren to speak on "Can Increasing Fruit and Vegetable Consumption Decrease Chronic Disease?" at the University Medical Center Room 5403 from noon until 1 p.m.
- The presentation provides information on the health benefits of having a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Taren will also discuss the differences in health benefits from consuming food compared with nutrient supplements.
- The Faculty Community Lecture Series presents Richard Poss, senior lecturer of humanities, to speak on "Science and Spirituality in Visual Art," in the University Medical Center's DuVal Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
- The UA Men's Tennis team plays Utah at 1:30 p.m. at the Robson Tennis Center.
The Libertarian Students are holding their first meeting on the spring semester today in Memorial Student Union Room 284 at 5:30 p.m.
- The Student Union's Gallagher Theatre is showing "looking for richard" a film by Al Pacino at 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Admission is $2.50.
Fact of the Day
Nine years ago today federal grand juries in Miami and Tampa returned indictments against Gen. Manual Noriega charging that he had protected and otherwise assisted the Medillin drug cartel, linked to 80 percent of the cocaine smuggled into the U.S.
