An intoxicated man was arrested on a charge of criminal trespassing Friday in the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd.

A male library employee told university police that he found an intoxicated man at 6:25 p.m. in one of the bathrooms while he was closing the library. The employee told police he escorted the man out and then called police.

Police located George Zimmerman, 43, of a general delivery address, in front of Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd. Zimmerman was obviously intoxicated, police reports stated.

A record check of Zimmerman showed numerous trespass warnings and a recent arrest Jan. 15 for trespassing at the Music building.

Police asked Zimmerman where his "booze" was, and he removed a bottle of vodka from his backpack.

According to police reports, Zimmerman admitted to being inside and drinking inside the library.

Zimmerman was arrested on a charge of criminal trespassing in the third degree. He was booked into Pima County Jail.

A taxi cab driver reported that four males jumped out of his cab Friday at East First Street and North Highland Avenue without paying their fare.

The driver told university police he was called to The Shanty Cafe, 401 E. Ninth St., about 1 a.m. to pick up four white males in their early 20s.

After picking the males up, he took them to First and Highland. When he stopped the cab about 1:10 a.m., all four males ran eastbound on First without paying the $5.25 cab fare.

The cab dispatcher told police that Thursday around 8 p.m., four males had been driven to The Shanty Cafe from Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, 1509 E. Second St.

Police checked the exterior of the fraternity house and saw four males matching descriptions given by the driver.

The four men were stopped and said they had been at The Shanty Cafe earlier, but had just left the fraternity house, police reports stated. The taxi driver told police the four men were not the four males he had driven.

A man was arrested on DUI charges Saturday after university police stopped him for allegedly failing to obey a stop sign at East University Boulevard and North Park Avenue.

Police observed a 1992 Jeep Wrangler go southbound through the intersection at 3:24 a.m., police reports said.

After conducting a traffic stop, police smelled a "moderate odor of an intoxicating beverage" coming from the vehicle, police reports stated.

The driver, Scott D. Schneiderman, 21, of the 1800 block of East Waverly Street, told police he had been drinking earlier that night at the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity house, 1011 N. Tyndall Ave.

According to police reports, Schneiderman's eyes were "red, watery and bloodshot."

Schneiderman also told police he felt fine and was OK to drive.

Police arrested Schneiderman on a charge of DUI physical control.

Intoxylizer breath tests showed Schneiderman registered a blood alcohol concentration of .075 and .073.

Schneiderman was also cited on a charge of failure to stop at a stop sign. He was released to a friend.

Two male students were each cited on a charge of minor in consumption of alcohol Saturday after university police stopped them at East First Street and North Vine Avenue.

Police were driving westbound on First from North Cherry Avenue at 12:38 a.m. when they saw two males holding bottles of beer, police reports stated.

According to police reports, one of the men, Makai K. Freitas, 18, a resident of Navajo-Pinal-Sierra Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St., was drinking when he noticed a police car. Freitas then dropped both bottles he was holding and continued walking, police reports stated.

The second man, Marques A. McFadden, 18, of Cochise Residence Hall, 1018 E. South Campus Drive, put a bottle in his hand when police stopped them, police reports stated.

Freitas and McFadden were each cited on a charge of minor in consumption of alcohol and released.
