  • The UA men's basketball team plays Arizona State University at 7:37 p.m. in the McKale Center.

  • The Diversity Action Council presents "Drums Across Cultures," featuring African American Day, on the UA Mall from noon until 1 p.m. with Barbea Williams and performing company followed by "Drums and their impact on African Society" in the Martin Luth er King Center Room 100 from 1:30 until 3 p.m.

  • The Hillel Foundation is hosting "Plant a Tree... Create a Forest" in celebration of Jewish Awareness Month on the UA Mall from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

  • The Building Academic Community speaker series presents Leslie Tolbert, professor of Neurobiology, to speak on "Our Plastic Brain" in the Memorial Student Union's Gallagher Theatre at 12:15 p.m.

  • University Physicians present "Menopause Update" in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Office on the eighth floor of the University Medical Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • The Department of Psychiatry Brown Bag lecture series presents Stephen Lewis, MD, Head of the Schizophrenia Treatment Team at Tucson's Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, to speak on "New Schizophrenia Medication and Regulations" at Goddard Hall, Unitar ian Church, 4831 E. 22nd St. from 11:30 until 1 p.m.

  • The Department of Physics presents Bradley Barber, of Bell Labs-Lucent Technologies, to speak on "Sonoluminescence: Turning Sound into Light" in the Physics and Atmospheric Sciences building Room 201 at 4 p.m. Refreshments are served in room 218 of th e PAS building at 3:30 p.m.

Fact of the Day

In 1870, Jefferson Long became the first African American elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. L. Douglas Wilder was the first African American to be elected governor of a state, Virginia, in 1990.
