Allen Arizona Daily Wildcat February 10, 1997 Police BeatA woman was arrested on multiple drug charges Thursday near East University Boulevard and North Jacobus Avenue.University police were driving west on University Boulevard when they saw two people with a parked 1978 OIdsmobile Cutlass. According to police reports, a man standing next to the driver-side door ran through the open gate of a nearby house when he saw the marked patrol car. A woman, Kathy A. Smith, 26, of the 4000 block of East 28th Street, then got out of the passenger side of the car, and police asked her why the man ran away. Smith told police she did not know. Police saw "several clear plastic bags" in Smith's right front shirt pocket, which she allowed police to see, reports stated. According to reports, two of the bags contained "white powder chunks," another contained "white powdery chunks" and the other had "green pills" in it. Police then arrested Smith on a charge of possession of a synthetic drug. Smith told police the pills were Valium and the other drugs were not hers, police reports stated. Police tried to find the man who ran but could not. According to reports, police found marijuana rolled into a $1 bill and a syringe after searching the car. Smith was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a prescription-only drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a synthetic drug. She was booked into Pima County Jail.
A male student reported damage to his 1988 Chevrolet S-10 Thursday in a parking lot behind Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St. The student told university police he left his truck in the lot Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. When he returned Thursday at 6:29 p.m., the vehicle was damaged. According to police reports, the right front window was shattered and pushed in from the outside of the truck. A broken piece of ceramic was found on the hood of the truck, and reports stated it may have been used as a "projectile" to shatter the glass. Also found broken was the truck's steering column around the ignition switch and several wires were hanging from the broken column, reports stated. According to reports, a dash-mounted radio was left and no items were taken from the truck. The value of the damage was unknown.
AU.S. Geological Survey employee reported damage to her 1982 Toyota Cressida Thursday in Lot 9001 near East Ninth Street and North Fremont Avenue. The employee told university police she parked her car at 10:30 a.m. and locked it. When she returned at 5:55 p.m., the car was damaged.According to police reports, the driver-side window was shattered and the face plate of the cassette player was on the ground. Nothing was missing from the car. The value of the damage was unknown.
A man was cited on a charge of possession of marijuana Thursday at a 7-Eleven store, 1750 E. Speedway Blvd. According to reports, two community service officers spotted two men who were possibly drinking in public at 10:15 p.m. on the south side of the 7-Eleven. Police approached the two men in a marked patrol car, but the men ran to the north side of the store. Once they were stopped, the two men denied drinking alcohol.According to police reports, the community service officers could not identify the two men as the ones who may have been drinking in public. But while speaking with one of the men, Raymond F. Jackson, 24, of Casa Grande, police smelled the odor of burnt marijuana, reports stated. Jackson admitted he had marijuana and handed police a 6-inch-by-4-inch plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, police reports stated. Jackson was cited on a charge of possession of marijuana and released at the scene.
