By Amanda Riddle Arizona Daily Wildcat February 10, 1997 Graduate council obtains new residenceAfter being homeless for several months, the Graduate and Professional Student Council held an open house Friday for its new offices. The graduate council moved to a University of Arizona-owned house at 1014 N. Martin Ave. Jan. 13, said Gordon Zaft, GPSC communication officer. Zaft is studying for a master's in electrical engineering. A split from the Associated Students of the UA in October required GPSC to move out of ASUA's offices above the UA Bookstore. GPSC had been a part of ASUA since the 1992-93 academic school year. Alix Rogstad, vice president of GPSC, said the Graduate College agreed to find the council a separate facility after the split from the ASUA. "We're very grateful to the Graduate College for rounding us up a building," Zaft said. Michael Cusanovich, vice president for research and graduate studies, said another group occupied the house temporarily but moved out Jan. 1, when it became available to GPSC. The house will be used for committee meetings and storage space. GPSC will still hold general meetings in McClelland Hall because of the council's size, Zaft said. Zaft said GPSC is the sole representative body for graduate and professional students. The council was founded in 1991 to provide representation and leadership to graduate and professional students.
