By Joel Flom Arizona Daily Wildcat February 10, 1997 Fullerton destroys UA pitching againThe Cal State-Fullerton baseball team went into Saturday's game looking for a series sweep of Arizona and everyone on the Titan squad did their part to make sure it happened. All nine spots in the Fullerton batting order collected at least one run, one hit and one RBI as the Titans completed the sweep with a 20-9 obliteration of the Wildcats at Sancet Field. The 12th-ranked Titans (5-2) collected 23 hits off Arizona pitchers. Junior third baseman Mike Lamb had four hits and scored three runs, while three Titans had three RBI apiece. Even one of Fullerton's relief pitchers got in on the action. Senior right-hander Dustin Spencer was forced to bat after an injury caused a lineup change. Spencer responded with a home run and three RBI while picking up the save for the Titans. Junior right-hander Scott Hild (1-1) got the victory, allowing four runs in five innings. "We didn't come to play," UA pitching coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We didn't get it done. We failed in our test." For Arizona, sophomore southpaw Rob Shabansky (2-1) took the loss. He gave up nine hits, eight runs, seven earned, in 5 1/3 innings. While none of the five Arizona pitchers allowed a walk, they did set a new school record by hitting five Titan batters. Junior shortstop Jake Thrower went 4-for-4 and now has seven hits in his last seven trips to the plate. Freshman third baseman Mike Meyer, who entered the Fullerton series hitting .179, went 3-for-3 with three RBI. "(Head coach Jerry) Stitt helped me out a lot," Meyer said. "He told me to just relax up there and have a lot of fun. He reminded me that I'm a good hitter and that they will start falling."
