Expensive, hidden sign not serving its purposeEditor:Stretch your memory back to a year ago when our fine institution of higher learning decided to spend an egregious amount of money to build a concrete sign in front of Taco Bell to define the boundaries of the university. At the time I questioned the judgment of this rather bold maneuver, considering our school was in a financial slump. However, over time I accepted it. Until now. For those of you who drive past the corner of Euclid and Sixth Street you may (or may not) have noticed the new cement border of our university. Hidden behind a 5-foot high, 20-foot wide wall of foliage is a new $15,000 to $20,000 concrete sign. What I want to know is, who was the intellectually gifted individual who selected this site for the new sign? If the school is going to waste this much money, I at least want to see what my fellow students and I paid for. The only function this sign serves is to provide a nice, convenient, hidden spot for Tucson High students to support their tumor-causing, teeth-staining, smelly, puking habit. Please, if we are going to waste this much money, at least go the extra mile and prune the trees so we can be proud of our new expensive slab of concrete.
