Allen Arizona Daily Wildcat February 11, 1997 Police BeatA man was cited on an assault charge Friday after he allegedly stuffed a parking citation into a Parking and Transportation employee's shirt pocket.The employee told university police he had been touched by a person while he was giving a ticket for improper parking in the parking lot behind the Memorial Student Union, 1303 E. University Blvd. He said the man, later identified as Jason C. Lafleur, 25, of the 2000 block of West Labriego Drive, shoved the citation in his right-breast shirt pocket. When police arrived in the parking lot to talk with the employee, Lafleur had left the scene. Police stopped a 1969 Volkswagen van at North Cherry Avenue and East University Boulevard that fit the description given by the employee. Lafleur told police he stuffed the citation in the employee's pocket but did not strike the employee, according to police reports. Lafleur was cited on a charge of assault with the intent to provoke. He was released at the scene. The parking citation was placed into evidence.
A man was arrested on a charge of aggravated DUI Saturday near the intersection of North Euclid Avenue and East University Boulevard. Police were traveling northbound on Euclid Avenue approaching East Second Street at 2:38 a.m. when they saw a 1979 Ford Mustang without its headlights on. Police tried to motion toward the driver to have him turn his lights on. The driver did not notice the motions. Police also turned on their overhead lights to get the driver's attention, but he did not respond. The car then sat at the traffic light for 45 seconds after it turned green before police honked their horn and the car moved. Police then stopped the car at East Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue. According to reports, police could smell a strong odor of alcohol from the driver's breath and body. The driver, Gary L. Hall III, 21, of the 1000 block of East Fifth Street, told police he had been drinking, reports stated. A records check showed Hall was serving a suspension and should not have been driving, according to police reports. Police arrested Hall on a charge of aggravated DUI due to his driving behavior, odor of alcohol, admission of drinking and performance on field sobriety tests, police reports stated. Police transported Hall to Tucson General Hospital so his blood could be drawn for a blood-alcohol test. Hall was booked into Pima County Jail.
A female student was cited on the charges of possession of a fictitious driver's license and parking in a roadway Saturday near the intersection of East Second Street and North Euclid Avenue. University police were traveling on Second Street at 3:28 a.m. when they noticed a 1996 Jeep Cherokee parked in the westbound lane. Reports stated police had seen the Jeep parked in the same location 30 minutes earlier. Police spoke with the driver, Stacy D. Blaugrund, 19, a resident of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority house, 1071 N. Mountain Ave., and explained that parking in a traffic lane was a traffic violation. Police asked Blaugrund for her driver's license and registration, and while she looked through her wallet, police saw two licenses. Blaugrund showed police both licenses. According to police reports, the difference in the two licenses was the date of birth. Blaugrund was cited and released at the scene.
A man was cited for minor in consumption of alcohol Friday when university police stopped him and another man after reports they were kicking bikes outside Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St. A male resident assistant at Coronado told police he saw four men kicking bikes in front of the hall. He told police the men walked eastbound on Fifth Street. Police stopped two men who were believed to have kicked the bikes at East Sixth Street and North Park Avenue.Both men admitted they were at the bike racks. One man, David A. Haberman, 19, of Coronado Residence Hall, told police, "Yeah, I guess we were having a little fun tonight," reports stated. According to police reports, police noticed Haberman's face was flushed and his eyes were "droopy." Police also smelled alcohol on his body. Haberman told police he had been drinking, reports stated. Police then cited Haberman for minor in consumption of alcohol. He was released at the scene. A community service officer reported three bikes appeared to be damaged, but police could not determine whether the bikes were previously damaged.
