U of A - Today

  • The UA women's tennis team plays University of Southern California at 1:30 p.m. at the Robson Tennis Center

  • The UA men's Basketball team plays University of California at Los Angeles at 8:30 p.m. at McKale Center.

  • The Committee on Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Studies is showing the documentary film "Cancer in Two Voices," by Sandra Butler in the Center for English as a Second Language Building Room 103 at 7 p.m.

    Butler will speak after the film on her experiences with her partner, Barbara Rosenblum, in dealing with cancer.

  • The History Department presents Hafsat Abiola speaking on "Human Rights and Political Crises in Nigeria," in the Economics Building Room 110 at 3:30 p.m.

    Abiola is a recent graduate of Harvard University and daughter of Mashood and Kudirat Abiola. In 1993 Mashood Abiola won the presidential election in Nigeria but has been held in solitary confinement since that time.

  • The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering seminars present Professor Jennifer Sinclair, of the UA Chemical Engineering Department, to speak on "Modeling the Vertical Transport of Dense Gas-Particle Suspensions," in the New Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Building Room S202 at 4 p.m. Refreshments are served at 3:20 p.m. in the New AME Building Room N722.

  • The Italian club hosts a Marcello Mastroianni film festival in the Modern Languages Auditorium Room 350 at 7:30 p.m.

    In "La Dolce Vita - The Sweet Life," Mastroianni plays a journalist in search of himself who becomes overwhelmed by the decadence of modern day Rome.

  • The Center for Transfer Students is hosting a presentation on "How to Choose a Major" in Bear Down Gym Room 201 from 1 to 2 p.m.

  • The Memorial Student Union's Gallagher Theatre is showing "Space Jam" at 7:30 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. Admission is $2.50.

Fact of the Day

The month of February was named after Februalia, a time period when sacrifices were made to atone for sins.
