Bike-riding activism offers some hope for the future

Editor:

I can't express my delight at your report on the latest Critical Mass ride!

The riders behaved with courtesy toward drivers and in so doing made us all look better.

If Critical Mass continues like this, I can promise them at least one more rider.

The concern over bike paths is legitimate, but since we cyclists pay nothing in gasoline taxes or automobile registration fees, we have contributed very little to the system. (In spite of this, the City of Tucson has continued the construction of some excellent trails here in the southeast section- try out the path from Alvernon along Golf Links to Wilmot, then south.)

Isn't there some way that WE can put our money where our collective mouth is, and raise some money to help with this?

I bet the city would be happy to help, the local media would help publicize it, and a good fund-raiser could probably come up with some matching funds.

Public figures REALLY like to be publicly associated with positive, grass-roots efforts like this would be.

But it would have to start with us. Is there an activist in the house?

Again, my hat's off to Critical Mass - they showed some class.
