The No-1 ranked Arizona softball team continued its romp through pre-conference competition this weekend recording four wins, all by shutout, in the Louisville Slugger Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida.

The trio of senior Nancy Evans and freshmen Becky Lemke and Teresa Ayoub combined to sweep the competition right off the field.

Yesterday's double header against Texas Tech was rained out.

Saturday, Arizona took out host Florida by scores of 7-0 and 9-0 as Evans and Lemke yielded just five hits in their respective outings while striking out six batters apiece.

In the second game of the double header against the Gators, the Wildcats used a seven-run, first-inning outburst to put the game out of reach.

Evans doubled in two runs in the inning and freshman slugger Toni Mascarenas singled in another pair of runs to give Lemke all the run support she would need.

In the first game, senior Lety Pineda hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning to go along with Evans and senior Alison McCutcheon, who each singled and doubled. McCutcheon also drove in two runs.

In Friday's wins over Southwest Texas State, Arizona pitchers Evans, Ayoub and freshman Meghann Pricer gave up just five hits over the two games.

Evans gave up a base hit to Hakey Gaddis to lead off the game and then retired the last 21 batters she faced, in order, to record a one-hit 2-0 victory.

Pricer pitched one inning in relief of Ayoub in the second game of the doubleheader, striking out two and walking none while giving up one hit.

The Wildcats recovered from a slow offensive performance in the first game to score 12 runs in the nightcap, behind the hitting of freshmen Lauren Bauer and Lindsay Collins.

Bauer and Collins each homered and drove in three and five runs respectively.

Arizona next returns to the diamond this Friday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Colorado State in the Wildcat Invitational at Hillenbrand Stadium. Kansas and McNeese State are also invited to the tournament.
