Two UA students were arrested on domestic violence charges Tuesday after a University Medical Center security officer saw them duking it out in a car on North Ring Road near East Mabel Street.

The security officer flagged down a university police officer at 5:35 p.m. near the Arizona Health Sciences Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., and told him there were a man and woman fighting in a 1998 Dodge Stratus, police reports stated.

The officer found the car minutes later and talked to the driver, Betty M. Robinsen, 22, a resident of Babcock Inn, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., and Spyro A. Malaspinas, 23, of the 1200 block of North Park Avenue, who was bleeding from the mouth, reports stated.

Malaspinas told police Robinsen was upset with him because he showed up 10 minutes late to pick her up and that he had to hold her down because she started hitting him, reports stated.

Robinsen told police she was upset because of a financial argument and that she had only poked Malaspinas' arms before he punched her in the stomach, reports stated.

Robinsen told police she then pulled over and socked Malaspinas in the face, and that he grabbed her arms and wouldn't let go, reports stated.

A records check indicated Malaspinas had warrants for failure to appear in court for driving on a suspended license and a shoplifting charge.

Malaspinas and Robinsen were both booked into Pima County Jail on domestic violence charges. Malaspinas had additional charges from the warrants.

Both remained in custody yesterday.

Four students were referred to the Dean of Students' diversion program Tuesday after a resident assistant reportedly saw the drunken students leave a room at Babcock Inn, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd.

A university police officer spotted five students walking north of Babcock about 11 p.m. and noticed an odor of alcohol coming from the group as he spoke to them, police reports stated.

The officer determined four of the students, all under 21, had been drinking earlier at Babcock, reports stated.

The four students were referred to the Dean of Students' diversion program.

A University of Arizona Facilities Management employee Monday reported the theft of a cleaning cart and a microwave oven from the James E. Rogers Law Center, 1201 E. Speedway Blvd.

The employee told university police the wheeled cleaning cart was in a second-floor lounge next to the microwave at 6:45 p.m. Friday, police reports stated.

When she returned an hour later, the cart and microwave were gone.

The microwave oven belongs to the Law Center, and the value of the items was unknown.

Police Beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
