Staff Reports SidelinesArizona's men and women's golf teams flipped places in their respective polls. After finishing second at the SMU/OSU Regional Challenge, the women's team took the top-ranked position from Arizona State in the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf rankings while the men fell to No. 2. The women moved into first for the first time since Sept. 17, 1997. Individually, junior Krissie Register is ranked third. Other ranked UA women golfers include junior Marisa Baena (18), sophomore Jenna Daniels (29), sophomore Shannon Ingalls (30), senior Heather Graff (59) and sophomore Jill Gomric (85). The previously top-ranked men's team fell one spot in the rankings. UNLV, who has defeated UA twice this season, moved into the top spot for the first time this season. Senior Rory Sabbatini is ranked No. 1 for the first time this season. He has finished among the top five in all of UA's seven tournaments this season and placed second in both the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate and John A. Burns Intercollegiate Golf Classic. Teammate Andy Barnes, a senior, is ranked sixth, sophomore Derek Gillespie 20th and freshman Tim Weiss 89th.
BrieflyThe newly-formed UA Weightlifting club team dominated the Arizona State Weightlifting Championships Feb. 7. Joining forces with sister club Peaks Weightlifting, UA took home the championship trophy with an eight point victory over Mesa Weightlifting Club. Junior Matthew Medeiros captured the gold medal in the 77 kilogram class with an impressive total lift of 185 kilograms. Medeiros, in only his second competition, set new state records with both his 75 kilogram snatch and 110 kilogram clean and jerk. Head coach Trevor Cottrell also competed in the event, helping earn team points by finishing third overall in the 105 kilogram class. He completed a 112 kilogram snatch and a clean and jerk of 130 kilogram, totaling 242.5 kilograms.
