Today's Sun Devil rivalry boiling for tennis teams

The Robson Tennis Center promises to resemble a battlefield today.

The No. 61 Arizona men's tennis team (3-3, 0-2 in the Pacific 10 Conference) is hoping to unleash a potent arsenal against No. 43 Arizona State (4-3, 0-2) at 1:00 p.m.

"We're going to kill them. We're going to dominate them all. Last year doesn't matter. They think they're good this year, but we'll show them how to win," said senior Michael MacKay, referring to the Sun Devils' two-match sweep of the Wildcats last year.

"I've heard them saying that they have a better team than us, but we can definitely beat them at every spot in the lineup," sophomore Jean-Noel Lacoste said.

The Wildcats are resuming their Pac-10 schedule today after four weeks of hosting non-conference teams.

The No. 23 women's team marches northwest to clash with the Sun Devils at 1:00 p.m. today on the ASU campus.

"It's the biggest match that we have all year," UA head coach Stephanie London said. "When we play ASU everything goes out the window."

Arizona State holds an 8-0 record, which includes two wins in the Pac-10.

Arizona (5-2) has sparkled with two consecutive wins and has improved to a 3-1 in the Pac-10.

"I think it's going to be very close, but hopefully we'll win. That's our goal," freshman Michelle Gough said.

"It's going to be very exciting, but I don't think that we're going to be so excited that can we can't play our game."
